NEXT PARLOR: WED., October 14th, 2026
Relax your shoulders. Unload your mind. A low-pressure after-work space to read, journal, puzzle, sip, listen, talk..or simply be.
What if you didn’t have to go straight from work to the next thing that needs something from you?
Welcome to The Parlor, an after-work decompression space at Two Best Friends Café & Books.
Come straight from work and settle in. Grab your complimentary drink. Find a cozy corner. Work on a puzzle, journal, browse the shelves, listen to the music, catch up with someone...or don’t.
There’s no pressure to network and nothing you need to accomplish. You don’t even have to talk.
At The Parlor, we take a few minutes to celebrate Black women who lead, serve, build and hold things together. Each Parlor may include a brief spotlight introducing us to a woman, her work and what moved her to create it.
This Parlor will spotlight Dr. Ursula Thomas, editor of Navigating Black Joy for Black Women Leaders in Higher Education. Dr. Thomas will share what inspired the work, introduce us to the ideas behind it, and leave us with something to consider or discuss as we continue unwinding for the evening.
What the evening feels like
Come anytime after doors open at 6pm. We’ll have music, puzzles, books, journaling space and plenty of cozy corners to settle into. Around 7 PM, we’ll open take a few minutes for a Parlor spotlight, before resuming with our decompression time.
Participation is always optional. Listen, contribute, keep working on your puzzle, or take what resonates back to your corner.
Your $5 RSVP includes one coffee/tea beverage or glass of wine.
Light bites and snacks also available.
Copies of Navigating Black Joy for Black Women Leaders in Higher Education will also be available to interested guests at a special Parlor discount.
